Using Breathography to achieve a neutral spine immediately after giving birth is an effective and repeatable method.
Why is neutral spine important? Neutral spine is the position of the pelvis and lumbar spine, in which all of the muscles that connect into it are working at a mechanical advantage, which gives your joints the advantage of being the most supported by the muscles strength at that range. Additionally, studies have shown when the low back is too flexed or too extended (no in neutral), excessive forces are placed on the hip joint and lumbar vertebrae, which we should protect at all costs!
How does Breathography help to achieve neutral spine after pregnancy? Most of us will be in a pelvic anterior tilt after carrying a baby for 9 months because of the growing baby. This position shortens our hip flexors and back muscles, disconnects us from our abdomen, and can wreak havoc on the low back and SI joint. Learn how to achieve a better neutral spine by using PostNatal Breathography in tandem with your functional movement series.

STEP 7: HOW DO I SIT UP SAFELY?
After giving birth, the linea alba (the center fascia in the abdominal wall) has been stretched and needs to regain stability and strength! Something we want to avoid at this time: sitting straight up (supine looking at the ceiling) without attention to the deep core. This can cause excess stress...
